It's completely possible that he's made any additional attempt at satire on this topic superfluous.

Or, as you suggest, it may be impossible to satirize the Tea Party Types without merely repeating their own performances.

I don't just despise these idiots spewing this type of historically inaccurate idiocies for their pollution of reasonable discourse. By seriously [well, as seriously as they are capable of--I'm not quite cynical enough to believe this is ALL done out of dishonest malice rather than honest idiocy] presenting bullshit as though it were informed debate, they're also crowding out satire and irony.

Leaving nothing but snark, I guess.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3375512083268389933.post-2528607719589386252009-03-18T11:27:00.000-06:002009-03-18T11:27:00.000-06:00I don't know. It seemed more like something that ...I don't know. It seemed more like something that was funny in discussion than execution. And I'm beginning to wonder if there's anything else that can be added to the whole thing now that I've seen the clip of some anchor or another saying that one group of tea partiers "hopes to teabag the White House."

Also, is this one of those places where the original idea and the satire are basically indistinguishable? Because there really were people throwing little baggies of Lipton in to bodies of water. This really happened. And they were serious about it.Gedshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15047239425466517786noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3375512083268389933.post-72997192167548380802009-03-18T07:36:00.000-06:002009-03-18T07:36:00.000-06:00Anonymous's chant is a winner! (And we all do know that McCain only picked that one because it allowed him to use a slang term for a vagina in public, right?) Turns out, beaver dams have derailed a few trains in that area, costing millions of dollars and risking lives.

Turns out, beavers really do need to be managed.

Also, even if the earmark is removed from the bill, the money is still spent, just not on that specific project.PersonalFailurehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03034292023591747601noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3375512083268389933.post-90944337140275133102009-03-12T22:48:00.000-06:002009-03-12T22:48:00.000-06:00On one hand it will be interesting to see if Crame...On one hand it will be interesting to see if Cramer actually took what happened with Stewart to heart. On the other hand, that would require me to watch CNBC to find out. So I guess it will remain a mystery to me...

And Rand may well have drawn the distinction, but even if John Galt really was as awesome as all get-out, that doesn't make the book good. Seems to me that an author's self-insert in a book built entirely on a foundation of straw shouldn't get that much cred.

It's why I felt I had to drop in the Beth Israel link. We really do need each other to make it through. It might suck and require sacrifice, but it sure beats the hell out of the alternative.Gedshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15047239425466517786noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3375512083268389933.post-80789703396343561872009-03-12T22:04:00.000-06:002009-03-12T22:04:00.000-06:00Locusts bad! Paying for getting rid of locusts good!

On the subject of sound bytes, moderate props to Jim Cramer for having the stones to go on the Daily Show tonight. Seems only pundits have the ideological freedom to even pretend they're accountable to anybody who isn't a shareholder.

I try not to bitch too much about Congresscritters because I, unlike you, did not vote. But really, how good can anybody's representation be in a two-party system where both parties get the bulk of their funding from corporate special interest groups that can afford massive campaign contributions and pro lobbyists who throw awesome coke-and-hooker parties? Votes don't buy congresspeople!

It's a pity about the Atlas Shrugged thing, really. I rather liked that book, and I thought Rand did draw a distinction between the rich people who focused on creating better products efficiently and the rich people who wanted to squelch competition and make a quick buck by selling shoddy stuff at inflated prices. The Bernie Madoffs of the world are the ones crying about the government giving a tiny fraction of "their" handouts to poor people out of one side of their mouths, and grumpily declaring they're going to run off to a self-interested capitalist paradise out of the other.

Awesome link to the Beth Israel article, by the way. If my old boss Elmer was still alive, he'd've been behind this cat all the way. And felt a warm fuzzy feeling that his little donations over the years had been going to the right place.Fiat Lexhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10441862977921307080noreply@blogger.com
