Sometimes I have to get a bunch of work done. Sometimes I just have to write a blog post and go to Trader Joe's for my next week's lunch. But even if I'm busy I'm generally less stressed out than I used to be.

Also, the diversity you point out in Biblical opinion on the various commandments is interesting. I find the Bible is a very human book now that I don't have to invest anything in it. On some weird level I find that I respect it more now that I can simply read it as the thoughts of a long-dead people and I feel no compulsion to follow a word of it.

I still sometimes hit situations and find the first thing that goes through my mind is a Bible verse. It's not that I'm suddenly opening my heart back up to god or anything, it's just that I suddenly realize, "Oh, that's what this was supposed to be about." It's kind of cool to not have to shut out that part of my life but not to worry I'm about to fall back in to old patterns.

Maybe I'm weird, though...

PF:

Maybe you're just a little OCD.

Although I get that, too. There are certain points when I know I can't start cleaning because I'll think, "I'll just do this little thing," but every time I do that little thing I realize that the little thing next to it annoys me, too.Gedshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15047239425466517786noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3375512083268389933.post-10141328956073063502009-07-08T14:23:19.992-05:002009-07-08T14:23:19.992-05:00We all need the Sabbath, and not a sabbath filled ...We all need the Sabbath, and not a sabbath filled with rituals and yet more rules and activity, but a sabbath of rest and renewal.

I never actually manage this, because I see one dog hair on the floor, or one little bit of toothpaste on the sink and I go into a frenzy of cleaning, but we do need it.PersonalFailurehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03034292023591747601noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3375512083268389933.post-2794914183529188882009-07-08T07:37:03.859-05:002009-07-08T07:37:03.859-05:00I was reading a book this morning that discussed t...I was reading a book this morning that discussed the different reasons for why God gave the sabbath. Exodus says it was as a reminder that God rested on the 7th day. Deuteronomy says it is to remind the Israelites to give their servants rest, because they themselves were once slaves in Egypt. The author's point was that there is diversity in the bible, we can't deny it, even if we ascribe it to God as his word.

I find it is easier to understand having thrown off the requirement to believe God taught it. People realized somewhere along the line that taking a day of rest is a good thing. How simple is that, yet we still need the reminder as you mentioned. Amen to that, and I'm finding my Sundays a hell of a lot more relaxing than when running the Sunday church marathon too, I'm right there with you.atimetorendhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10563649474540441597noreply@blogger.com
