Words Fail

Just war is almost entirely in the eye of the beholder. Remember that when the American government keeps supporting Israel because, y'know, they're the good guys.

There are good guys? When did this start?

I never understood why it's okay to do things under cover of the word "war" that would have the entire police force of every country in the world after you if you just went ahead and did it.

Everybody's still dead either way.

Unfortunately what we're seeing here is a simple case of misplaced revenge. The Palestinian insurgencies assault people and places within the borders of the established Nation of Israel. The Israelis decide to go the Ezekial "great vengeance and furious anger!" (imagine that in that Samuel L. Jackson's voice for effect) route and end up slaughtering an assload of innocent civilians because taking the time to actually locate insurgents and perform surgical strikes against them AND ONLY THEM just doesn't yield the same satisfaction as burning and bombing the shit out of the entire god-forsaken Gaza Strip. The Israelis then claim that their grievances somehow justify the ridiculous level of collateral damage and the Palestinian insurgency uses the atrocities to reinforce their position that Israel is evil and ALL OF THEM need to die.

And so the wheel of vengeance goes on and on...

To quote Bertrand Russell (much as I loathe to do so): "War does not determine who is right - only who is left."
