AtF: On Hold

Yeah, so I'm about halfway through an AtF post and trying to puzzle my way through Anglo-Saxon dynastic succession.

It's giving me a headache and I've totally lost track of what I'm doing.  So I'll probably have to regroup on this one and finish it some other time.  I'd like to extend my sincerest apologies to the two of you who deeply, deeply care about the AtF series...

Maybe you need to upgrade to a higher level of liquor?

It's actually not so much that. The situation is extremely weird on this one. Cooper slapped up another one of his stupid genealogies, this time for six "houses" of Anglo-Saxon descent.

The interesting thing here is that as best I can tell the genealogy actually lines up with what we know about the Anglo-Saxon leadership between the migration to Great Britain and the time of Alfred the Great. But even though there are kings who are on there in roughly the places they should be, it's still not right. And tracing the descent all the way back to Jesus from Alfred the Great to Noah using said genealogy only takes us back to roughly 60 years after the death of Christ.

Either way, I actually find it to be a fascinating thought experiment. But in order to explain why I've found it necessary to educate myself on the origins of East Anglia and Northumbria, among other things. I also strongly suspect I'll have to start figuring out exactly how the genealogy being slapped up now contradicts other genealogies used by Cooper.

That's going to be another big issue. When you're trying to create history whole-cloth using conspiracy and picking and choosing from sources that agree with you there's bound to be a lot of internal inconsistency. As far as education about how to do history correctly goes, that's a massive and important topic to cover.

But it requires a little bit of homework, sadly.

I hope you don't find this crushing, but I think it's possible that your two readers who deeply, deeply cared about the AtF series may have had their affections turned by the one on Constantine...

Are you trying to talk me in to dropping AtF? Because I'll do it. So help me, I will do it.
