None of My Exes Live in Texas...

So for those who are waiting with baited breath, I've officially made it to Texas. In fact, I've been here since Saturday. The last of the Chicago ice flew off my car about 50 miles north of the Texas/Oklahoma border. The Chicago road salt is still keeping my car that lovely shade of Chicago winter two-tone (blue and gray, in my case). I'll have my stuff tomorrow. I'll have internet and TV at some point this century. So I've got that goin' for me. I'm thinking that means it's time to start thinking about the First Annual Meet-Up of the Accidental Historian Appreciation Society, Dallas Chapter (the AHASDC is a venerable institution, with a membership of literally several and a history spanning weeks, if not months). I think MLK Weekend might be a little optimistic at this point, but the following weekend seems like a good place to start talking. At the moment I'm partial to the idea of beers at the Flying Saucer, but I'm willing to entertain any and all suggestions. So what say ye, gentlefolk? Oh, and my internet is intermittent at best right now. I'm pretty much reduced to using the free wi-fi at my complex's clubhouse for the moment. In theory I'll actually have something on Friday, but I'm sure AT&T will find a new and exciting way of fucking me over. Still, after (not getting) U-Verse installed pissed me off and getting boned by Time Warner (take a note: places I do not live include: San Antonio, South Carolina, Los Angeles, and San Diego. Tim Warner seems to not know that) I switched back to old, reliable AT&T DSL plus DirecTV. Since there's a freaking AT&T DSL modem on the truck full of my stuff that will arrive tomorrow I figure there's at least a 35% chance the internet will be up and running in La Casa de Geds by some time on Friday. Maybe even 40%.

As much as I absolutely love me some Flying Saucer, the kind of meeting you suggest would probably better be held at the Ginger Man (weather permitting). The seating is mostly outdoors (hence the weather permitting part) so it's much quieter, and they have huge tables that can easily accomodate 6+

Could always use the Saucer as a backup if weather isn't permitting.

I love the Ginger Man. Are you thinking of the one in Dallas, Plano, or Fort Worth? I'm okay with the Flying Saucer, as well (but the one in Addison, Garland, or Fort Worth?).

The 30th would be better for me, but if everyone else is in for the 23rd, I'll just reschedule a few things.

I owe you a beer, Geds. You've kept me entertained and thinking. "After the Flood" will have a whole new meaning soon. :P

Just let me know when and where and I will make it if I can. :)

Alternate suggestion (possibly a bad-weather backup?): The Londoner, preferably the one in Addison. Depending on the time and day, it ranges from "pleasantly quiet" to "stuffed with raucus expatriate footballers". Good range of beers and other drinks, indoor and outdoor seating.

As long as we're talking about a weekend, dates are highly negotiable on my end.

We can move it to the weekend of the 30th.

I've been cast adrift on a sea of boxes at the moment and I haven't bothered to start scheduling much of anything, so I can do whatever.

I'm not aware of a Ginger Man in Plano, so I was thinking of the one in Dallas. Never been to the Londoner, so I'd be happy to check that out as well.

Since Geds lives in Irving, I'm pretty sure he's referring to the Addison Flying Saucer.

What time are we looking at, more or less? The Small Boy goes to bed between 8 and 9, so I'm best off either before or after that; but I can probably work something out with the Beautiful Woman if necessary.

I've never been to the Londoner, either. I'd be up for any of the above.

I'm happy you arrived safely in Texas, distressed that your internet is wonky, and envious of your upcoming restaurantening.
